I Description
Great trees tower above a small land of the dead, their leaves filtering the sunlight, providing welcome shade and casting a greenish light over the eerie village. Delicately carved reliefs on the walls sprout lichen, moss and creeping plants. Some as wide as an oak tree, the vines cleave massive stones in two and spill over the top of temple ramparts. Hidden behind a stone wall covered with old vines is the Drausia Kingdom, a beautifully decorated citadel inhabited by the ever mysterious vampires. Surrounded by a living complex, with the Drausia flag flying high and proud for all to see, this is a place that finds light in their dark territory...or at least they try to.
After Drausia came to be, vampires would travel far and wide, searching many years for the land. It was said to be ruled by a very old and wise vampire, Brygida Voncour, who made her life-style a peaceful one. She believed that, just because they'd been made into these monsters, did not mean they had act like their makers. Under her ruling, no vampire would ever feed off an unwilling human. While she offered Drausia as home to those who were in need, anyone who chose to live in Drausia was forced to obey this rule. Queen Voncour had a small but powerful clan of vampires that ensured constant peace among such damned creatures. She made several children before meeting her soul mate and, after time, they had a child of their own and called her Erinista. While the Voncour’s rejoiced the arrival, plots against them were being made just outside the castle walls. The Iastelle Clan succeeded in overthrowing the Voncour’s, destroying all but the infant who had been hidden in the floor boards.
Now, many years later, Erinista wanders Drausia, orphaned by her unknown parents, living just outside the castle, working in Naga's Tavern while Queen Iastelle sits upon a throne free to feed off whomever she desires...
II Government and Public Establishments
You’re in a village of vampires, what could you possibly need with government and silly things like medical aid and fire fighters? Nonetheless, there is a small group of vampires that act as what humans call “police officers” and they are called Sheriffs. They are in charge of keeping order and making sure everything is as it should be. Don’t get on their bad side; they can be quite nasty creatures.
As for your schooling, your Sire is responsible for taking care of your learning needs. If you find yourself with a rotten sire, you’re pretty much out of luck unless you find a goodhearted vampire who wants to take you in...
Fire House: If something catches fire, you’d better run for a witch or warlock because no vampire is going to risk his life for your neck. That’s just the way it is.
Garbage disposal: Drausia is a “You Bring It In, You Take It Out” village. They take pride in cleanliness and all garbage is removed and taken to the Midlands for recycling.
III Law and Order
The laws are sent straight from the castle and are enforced by the Queen of Drausia. No matter how old the vampire, he/she must answer to this young beauty, whether or not you agree to her word. The punishment for crimes is determined by a court meeting of sorts, nothing all that official. The Queen has been known to be quite harsh, but if you have useful information or old jewels she might be bribable...of course there is a punishment for attempting to bribe the Queen as well, so make sure what you have is worth a lot.
There are loyal Voncour vampires who still live by the rules she set while she was alive (for lack of a better word) and secretly wish for the return of a Voncour.
IV Religious Centers
The Temple of Voncour is behind a wrought-iron fence in a much scarier (by appearance only) part of the village. It appears to be long forgotten about because the Voncour’s are no longer in existence and a new ruler has come to be. It was damaged by the Queen Iastelle and her most loyal followers the day they destroyed the Voncour’s and many still mourn the loss of the beautiful, compassionate, true Queen of Drausia. Some have managed to save a part of the temple and rebuilt the shrine so they have a place to remember the Voncour’s and pray for the return of one of their leaders.
There is also a new temple, paying tribute to Queen Iastelle just outside the castle; it is a life-like replica. Rumor has it the Queen is able to watch over the village through the eyes of this statue.
V Important People
Queen Iastelle: This is the vampire who rules over all of Drausia. She is older than most and isn’t very tolerable to the rights of the others. She sits comfortably in her chambers, feeding off humans and bossing others around.
Erinista Voncour: The last of the Voncour Clan, she was a mere infant when her mother saw the sun and is the only one that can overthrow the Queen and take her rightful place as Queen. Very few people know her true identity and have vowed to keep it a secret from her and from the queen for her own safety.
VI Shops, Guilds, and Organizations
Naga’s Tavern: If you’re looking for a small, clean, overpriced place to spend your evening, then Naga’s is for you. A place where the curious bartender will greet you immediately, setting you up with a drink he claims is an old family recipe. A drink of deep purple with metallic swirls and cinnamon on the rim of the glass, the drink smells somewhat like raw meat and tastes like vinegar, but is surprisingly delicious. Many shady characters find their way to Naga for the poorly lit tables in the back... If you’re visiting Drausia, you’ll want to skip out on Naga’s unless you want to be the next on the menu: you are in a town full of hungry vampires, after all.
Sanguine Catacombs: Deep beneath the earth. Here it is cool, dark and safe, as it should be. Dug deep into the ground there is a mazelike series of tunnels and vaults for the keeping of her dead daughters and sons…or rather for her living dead daughters and sons. Here the vampires of Drausia have lain until they are born again into a new world all their own. Vampires that remember the times before their species could walk beyond the tomb still live in the secret chambers and halls, while many other such rooms and caverns remain empty and unoccupied until their masters occasionally return with a new family member to bury and then welcome into the population of Drausia.
Venatio Square: In the center of Drausia is Venatio Square, which is always bustling with activity whether you're visiting allies or looking for something tasty to eat. Visitors searching for a magical liquid known to give the drinker the secrets of Drausia are often spotted by the local children who will offer their guidance through a safe part of the village. Visitors will do wise to agree on a price before accepting their assistance or else they’ll take what they want and you may not agree to their price.
Drausia Castle: Set high on a hill overlooking the Sea of Meditation is the Drausia Castle, built of dark grey stone and full of towers. It is home to the Queen and her most loyal subjects. It is reached by a long curvy dirt path, lined with the queen's favorite flowers: black roses. Many years ago, during the Voncour reign, the castle was made of white marble and flowers of many bright colors lined the road. Some hope and dream to see those colors again, but it has been years and thoughts of doubt have set in...
VII Vital Stats
Location : Drausia is in the west end of Magnum Terra, a hidden, magical land.
Ruler : Queen Iastelle
Government Type : Dictatorship (One leader with absolute power). The “government” is rock solid and is built upon traditions and rituals that have last for many generations. It is highly unlikely that such a so-called government will undergo any significant change in the next 50 years. Such governments are usually strong and have full support of the military and the people.
Languages : English, but vampires are able to speak whatever languages they acquired during their human years.
Allies : There are times the humans of the Midlands have been called allies because they rely so heavily on vampire blood and the sensations it provides them.
Enemies : The creatures that inhabit the Fenrir Mountains. Whether or not the vampire attacks the werewolf in question is up to the creature itself. Werewolves have an intolerable smell that irritates a vampire. Like those before them, they have been taught to hate and this prejudice is mutual.
