Kings have a Halo; but this King has horns holding up his…
Pendarrin Talon
From a very young age Pendarrin had a rebellious nature that often landed him in trouble. A skill at taking things that didn’t belong to him didn’t help clear his innocence either. By the age of 9, Pendarrin was becoming a handful for the family that had taken the young orphan in. When they tried to send him to the Council for judgment, he ran away wanting to live out on the streets than become some servant for a pampered noble. No decent work was available for someone his age, so he turned to a life of crime. At first it was petty crimes here and there to make ends meet, but when he turned 12, he came across the Thieves Guild and was recruited. For the next few years he immersed himself in the seedy underbelly of the land of Magnum Terra, which involved dangerous outcast from all races.
Crime had no race as long as the coin was good. During one of their missions dealing with a shipment coming in from the Vampire lands, they were attacked by a group of rouge Vampires. A few of the thieves clan members were killed and their leader was wounded. Pendarrin tried to save their dying King, but to no avail. The King knew he was cursed and would turn into one of the pale creatures. He begged Pendarrin to end his life. He refused to live it as a Vampire that was the moment his life changed. Doing as his leader’s last command, Pendarrin ended the King’s life. The clan was battered and weakened, but some how Pendarrin managed to round up the reaming members and escape. When the clan found out about the King’s death, arguments ensued. Who would be their next leader? At first everyone voted for Thorin to take place as King since he was second in command, but majority voted for Pendarrin to become King.
Rumors spread of him taking down the legendary King Hegan, some people contested the rumor, those people disappeared shortly after. Since then only people that challenged him were newcomers and fools and those were far and few in between. King of thieves at age 15, Pendarrin has led the Thieves Guild to a prosperous future. Their gold is bottomless and their reputation is fierce and nothing seemed to stand in his way, except the Council. They were always sticking their noses in where they didn’t belong. Most of the council and their henchmen were crooked and could easily be bought, but there were a few that still had shining values. It was those that were becoming a thorn in the young King’s side.
They made it known that he was being closely watched. Luckily for him, he never got caught. That was why he remained King all these years. At first the some of clan had problems taking order from someone so young, but after witnessing him kill of an opponent twice his age, everyone backed off. Pendarrin wasn’t fond of killing. He only did it when it was necessary or when a point needed to be made. Too much blood on his hands, would bring the council to his doorstep and that was the last thing he needed. He wasn’t a man of rules. The clan mostly followed the original code. The only rule he had was no stealing from the poor. Anyone found breaking this rule was killed.
Now there is a war threatening to swallow the land and all its inhabitants into despair, and the Thief King finds himself perturbed by this. But was can a thief hope to achieve in a game played by even the Deities themselves? Only time will tell what fate has in store for him….
