Becoming a Werewolf: Since the first wolf, shifting lupine creatures have evolved into the modern werewolf over the centuries. The creation of a new werewolf has been done in two ways, born and bitten. The born werewolves are made in the womb of a werewolf or human mother. The mating of a human woman and werewolf has been a rare occurrence, for while the love of a wolf is eternal the love and affections of humans is ever changeable and have rarely expanded beyond their own race to see into the eyes of a wolf changing under the moon and know the love and passion there. Since human matings are rare the birth of a werewolf through a human mother is an uncertain subject but is said to be painful and often deadly to the human mothers if the child chooses to be a wolf when it is born. When a werewolf cub is conceived in a werewolf mother the infant can change shape with it’s parent and can be born as a human or wolf. The born werewolves are truly in tune with their natural selves and have often chosen to remain as wolves all their lives. Then there are the bitten wolves. These werewolves were human first before they became one of the kindred running under the moonlight. They become one with the wolf when they are bitten under a full moon by a werewolf and are able enough to survive the attack. The human will spend many days suffering from a fever and painful shifting until their first full moon when they will shed their human skin and become one with the new wolf within and run with their new brothers and sisters.
Transformation: The transformation of a werewolf from human to wolf and between the two forms can to be learned from their makers. But a knowledge of control over their forms can also be learned naturally if the need arises. The change between a werewolf’s human form and its lupine form is a natural act that can be painful and frightening in the beginning but as the werewolf ages it can become an instantaneous reaction brought on by emotion or a desire to become a wolf at will. All wolves have a reverence for the moon, it shines down on them and guides them through the darkest of places on a night hunt. On the rising of the full moon werewolves are compelled to transform and are infused with the moon‘s full light, making them run wild and free in their wolf forms with the glowing eyes of a frenzied madness. It is at the rise of the full moon that fights between two werewolves and pack clans will break out and the biting of humans is a common occurrence. Only the mature werewolves have some semblance of control when they are in the throws of the wild nature the full moon inspires in them…
Characteristics: When a man becomes a wolf, his/her senses will heighten. Eyesight and the sense of smell being the most powerful and animalistic. The strength of a werewolf is superior to a normal wolf’s but is rarely used against them. As a human his/her strength will also be greater than the average human, making interaction with weaker beings in either form a dangerous pastime. The emotions and loyalties of a werewolf are more in tune with nature and deeper now that they can walk between two different worlds that coexist together. Lone wolves are wilder than those that form or join a pack. When a wolf is a part of a pack the thoughts of his/her new brothers and sisters are more open to be heard and understood, but control of which thoughts are heard can be managed on occasion. The pack leader has the power of dominance over the wolves beneath his/her rank through the sub-sound in their voice, but challenges can often be made and many changes of leadership can occur in a newly formed pack. The eldest wolf pack in the mountains, The Radulfs, have the power of dominance over the packs younger than theirs, so should the werewolf prince command obedience it is very unlikely resistance against his will can last too long before punishment will be given.
Language: Over the years the language of the mountain people has become English or what ever language the wolves over hear in the villages, but the true wild wolves still speak Lycan amongst eachother, the language of wolves that resembles the languages of the old Norse and Celtic peoples of the ancient times.
